Selection Policy
· In season 2008/09 the selectors will consist of coach as chairman and captains.
· Selectors are to pick teams based on availability, taking into account total numbers, status of outstanding fees, or any pending disciplinary matters.
· All players who are promoted or dropped will be advised by the chairman prior to publication of the teams.
· If any players have complaints or would like to discuss their selection they are encouraged to contact the chairman of selectors.
· All players should be aspiring to play as high standard as possible so that the club benefits and improves.
· Players who train and contribute to the club will be looked at more favorable than people who don’t.
· A player who is promoted must be given the opportunity to display by their captain why they have been promoted. (batsman top 6, Bowler must bowl)
In regard to selection the following factors will be taken into account when selecting sides,
· Individual performances – The selection committee will focus on all-round performances, where we will look at all aspects of play- that is batting, bowling and fielding. Players who consistently give their innings away playing loose shots will be noted and performance in the context of the game will also be noted. (e.g. 1st innings, 2nd innings)
· Attitude – This includes player’s attitude to the club, fellow players and administrators. This will focus on effort at training and match days, timeliness of attendance and their contribution to team spirit/ performance.
· Fitness/ training attendance – 1st and 2nd grade players must train once a week. If players cannot attend due to work/study commitments they must inform captains at the commencement of the week.
· Unavailability – If a player misses a game, he will not be automatically re-selected in that grade. The player who has taken his spot if warranted will retain his spot.
· Team Balance – We will focus on ensuring teams are balanced and that may mean selection changes that may appear at the individual level to be unwarranted. We also will adjust teams depending on whether a game is a one day or two day game.
· Rotation – We will ensure to rotate players from our bottom grade to ensure all players get an opportunity to play.
· If a player becomes unavailable after the sides are selected they are to personally advise either their captain or the chairman of selectors of their unavailability, (and a reason) at the earliest possible time to allow a replacement to be arranged. Failure to do so could lead to the player being stood down for the following match.
· Any player that refuses to play where selected will be stood down for that match, and will only be available again for selection after they have explained their actions to the selection committee
