About the Juniors

Our Aims

Enjoyable and safe environment in which juniors learn and play cricket under the guidance of accredited coaches and senior players.
Emphasis on fun, equality and inclusion at all levels of junior cricket.
Clear, visible and open management structure overseeing the junior cricket programme.
Good communication between club management, players and parents.
Encourage parent involvement at all levels. Social activities and programmes that contribute to an enjoyable club environment for players and parents.

Junior Teams 2011-12

The Club fields the following teams in the Heidelberg District Cricket Association age-groups:

Under 17 (Matches: Friday's 5.00-8.00 pm. Home Ground: Brunswick St Oval)
Under 15 (Matches: Friday's 5.00-8.00 pm. Home Ground: TBC)
Under 13 (Matches: Friday's 5.00-8.00 pm. Home Ground: TBC)
Under 11 Development (Kookaburras) (Matches: Wednesday evenings. Home Ground: TBC)

The birthday cut-off date for eligibility for each team is 31st of August.

New players are welcome. Extra coaching will be available to help players of any age group who have not previously played competitive cricket.

Registration Fees

Junior registration fees are $175 (Full), $85 (Concession) and $60 (Under 11).

The club does not want financial considerations to preclude any junior from playing, so please contact Sally Marsden (0425 885 069) email: sally.marsden@bigpond.com, if the fees present a financial difficulty.

There are no additional match day fees.

Training/Coaching Sessions

All teams in a given age group train together. Under 11 and Under 13 teams have one training session per week. Under 15 and Under 17 teams have two training sessions per week and are expected to attend at least one of these. Under 15 & Under 17 players who have difficulty getting to training on time due to school commitments etc are encouraged stay on after the end of junior training and continue their training with the seniors who train directly after the juniors on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Coaching and Team Management

Coaching: Two years ago the club instituted a policy of providing an accredited coach for each team. This has been working well and we hope, over the coming years, to build up a pool of accredited coaches within the club. These coaches are senior players and interested parents who have volunteered to coach and who have undertaken, or are undertaking, the Level 1 coaching certification via Cricket Victoria or who have equivalent certification.

Team Management: Each team also needs a parent to act as team manager who is responsible for the administrative details of the team (rostering parents tasks, e.g. scoring, food, etc), making sure that everyone knows where to go for the match and keeping the scores up-to-date online. No cricket knowledge is required for this job. This season the club requires each team to have a team manager in place before the season starts. The club will not allow teams to go ahead without a manager in place. It is not a very time consuming job and we will give you plenty of support, so if you think that you can do it, please contact Sally Marsden.

Parental Help at Training: Parental assistance is needed at training to help the coaches. You don’t necessarily have to have any cricket knowledge to help out. There are a number of things that you can help with - some as simple as just throwing a ball or helping to rotate the kids taking turns batting in the nets. Parental Help at Matches: Parents are expected to take part in the roster of duties organised by the team manager.
